THURSDAY 5TH JUNE 2008, 8PM - 12AM

Chilli Fried, London's leading global beat session, presents the cream of 2 contrasting musical cultures: the rich Bulgarian tradition of unaccompanied women singers represented by the striking, passionate voices of the Perunika Trio and the wild trance inducing sounds of the Sinai Desert provided by special guest Goma Ghanaeim from the acclaimed Bedouin Jerry Can Band.

Eugenia Georgieva, Victoria Mancheva and Victoria Evstatieva, the 3 young women who make up The Perunika Trio met through the London Bulgaria Choir. All are of Macedonian descent and spent their early years in the Bulgaria, but are now based in London. Their debut album Introducing: Perunika Trio (Riverboat) is a journey through the rich musical landscape of Southern Bulgaria: its laments, chants and love songs. Tonight, they'll be bringing this hauntingly beautiful voyage of discovery to life on the stage of Darbucka's beautiful Bedouin basement bar.

Opening the evening will be a special guest spot from Goma Ghanaeim, master of the traditional simsimiyya lute and founder member of The Bedouin Jerry Can Band, who play the deep roots music of the Sinai Desert. Their debut album Coffee Time (30 IPS) caused quite a stir on it's release last year. Tonight Goma will be joined by other members of the group, offering a rare opportunity to catch them in an intimate setting.

All this + resident DJ Jamie Renton spinning global beats and roots rhythms.
